How do you calculate a discount?
To find a sale price, multiply the original price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). For example, $80 at 25% off is $80 × 0.75 = $60. This calculator does that instantly and also shows exactly how much you saved.
Do two discounts add up, like 20% + 10% = 30% off?
No — stacked discounts are applied one after another, not added together. A 20% discount followed by a 10% discount on the reduced price works out to a 28% total discount, not 30%. Use the "Stacked Discounts" mode above to calculate this correctly.
Should tax be calculated before or after the discount?
In most places, including the US, UK, and Canada, sales tax or VAT is calculated on the discounted price, not the original price. This calculator applies tax after the discount by default, matching standard checkout practice.
